It may seem embarrassing to go out to a restaurant and ask for a table for one. It may seem embarrassing to awkwardly sit by yourself while you wait for your food to arrive. It may seem embarrassing to physically eat without anyone to talk to.
Going out to eat by yourself is nerve-wracking. It’s one of the moments where you sit in your car for a few minutes to truly decide if you want to go inside. But that is the beauty of it all.
It’s all about making yourself feel uncomfortable to make it to the next stage of enjoying your own presence. As with anything in life, it takes practice to enjoy the simple task of enjoying a meal out by yourself. The first few times are always awkward and uncomfortable. But as time goes on, it’s almost preferable to go and eat by yourself.
It’s almost like being in your own little world while being surrounded by crowds of people. Enjoying your favorite book, doing homework, or even playing around on your phone while sitting at a table or in a booth helps to get away from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life.
It also helps to improve your confidence. It makes you feel accomplished and secure within yourself. It makes it bearable to do activities or run errands throughout the day by yourself without having to feel insecure because you’re by yourself. It takes the independence you are given to a whole other level.
It is easy for us as human beings to not enjoy who we are. We don’t necessarily give ourselves the chance to look in the mirror every day and love ourselves. We hide behind our friends to help mask our imperfections and the traits we exhibit that we don’t like about ourselves.
This is where eating by yourself comes into play. Being able to sit in public in a crowded restaurant by yourself and accept your own presence is a huge step in accepting who you are. What better and simpler way is there to take the steps in enjoying who we are every single day?
So, why not? Why not go out for 30 minutes at your favorite restaurant, enjoy your favorite meal and improve yourself as a human at the same time? It’s the little self-accomplishments every day that we can take to help make a happier life.
