Why Finstas Are Here To Stay

Despite popular belief, nobody is always glowing and 100% happy all of the time.

One of the best known and most widely used social media platforms out there today, Instagram, has people across the globe hooked. The platform lets people show off the best parts of their lives while letting them hide everything else.

People post, comment, edit, filter and like their way in attempts to achieve the ultimate (but impossible) goal of perfection. Many people use Instagram to effortlessly present themselves as candid, cool and collected.

By the sounds of it, Instagram makes people seem perfect and not genuine, right? Well, that my friends is where we distinguish the types of Instagram accounts that people have and actively keep up with. Besides fan accounts, meme accounts etc., people on Instagram typically have two different accounts: a rinstagram and a finstagram.

A rinstagram, or rinsta, is ironically more like a fake Instagram, where people act how society deems socially acceptable. People pose for pictures in different ways to get the absolute best angle and wait to post their picture until an optimal hour in which they are guaranteed to get an abundance of likes. It is one big mess that has become a religion to all users.

Despite the name, the account does not depict the reality of a person's life or who they are. It’s just where people go to try to look their best all the time.

Despite popular belief, and what Instagram may lead you to believe, nobody is always glowing and 100% happy all of the time. As people began to use Instagram more and more, and they desired an outlet where they could express their real selves on this fake platform, the finstagram was created.

A finstagram, or a finsta for short, is a concept that people are currently hooked on and have been obsessed with since around 2015. Finstas are the complete opposite of a rinsta, and have become an ongoing trend. People either want one, or have one and most probably follow many of them.

According to Urban Dictionary, a finsta is “an account used for people to post pictures that are funny or embarrassing. Usually, they are created with clever usernames and poke fun at yourself or your closest friends.” Though parts of Urban Dictionary’s definition has been proven true, there is more than meets the eye.

A finsta is also a place that allows individuals to be themselves, and is ironically more like a rinsta than a rinsta is. Nobody hides behind filters or takes time planning out their finsta posts. Nobody cares about the amount of likes they get or the number of followers that they have on their finsta. It's genuine and it's a fun, judgement free zone. They’re raw, pure, and used to poke fun at yourself or to publicly (well, whoever you allow to follow the account) embarrass your best friends, only those you know won’t be offended of course.

In my opinion, I believe everyone who takes part in the Instagram world already should definitely get on the finsta scene! I promise you won’t regret it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
