A year ago, when Stranger Things was first becoming big news, I told myself I wasn't going to give in to the hype. I told myself it was too scary, too mainstream, and just not for me. Despite everyone chanting "Friends don't lie!" in my ear, I told myself there was nothing special about it.
A year later, when Stranger Things 2 was released and everyone went missing for a day to binge watch it, I still tried to keep away. Me, a lover of Netflix and every single drama watched, tried to not watch the biggest drama released yet. We all know how this ends. Finally, I released my death grip on the edge of the cliff and plummeted down into the beautiful world of Hawkins, Indiana.
Two days and seventeen episodes later, I can't even begin to explain how amazing the show is. No wonder people are so obsessed with it. The sets are amazing, the characters are cunning and real, and the plot keeps people glued to the edge of their seats waiting for the pieces to come together while simultaneously throwing us curveballs. It's everything you need from romance to adventure, spooky to reminiscent. The level of storytelling is remarkable.
In terms of criticism, I don't know if I have anything other than points that make me a just another one of the needy fans:
For starters, more episodes, faster. It took over a year for the release of season two after the first one and my heart ache to think about the months I will spend without new episodes. I will have to spend all my time contemplating whether or not the relationships formed at the end of season two will stick (Eleven and Mike being priority number one with Jonathan and Nancy a close second). Maybe I'll consider if Will is really free of the Upside Down or what the Mind Flayer is going to destroy next season. I'll guess the number of times Eleven's nose will bleed and how many snarky comments Max will make. I guess that'll hold me over till the next season. Probably not though.
If you haven't watched Stranger Things, because you're like me and hate to be mainstream or you think it's not your thing, try it anyway. It's an amazing story with amazing characters, who are just as adorable off the screen as they are on it. You'll laugh, you'll sometimes want to cry, but most of all, the show will make you happy. You'll be left wondering why you hadn't watched it sooner. Just hear me when I say this is a show you don't want to miss. Like Steve says,
And for anyone who still refuses to watch Stranger Things,
