Why Is Fashion Week More Important Than Climate Change?

You don't have to believe in climate change because it already exists right in front of us.

If you've been following my articles recently, you already know that we are officially in the aftermath of the world's first global climate strike. The turnout was absolutely incredible. There were roughly 4,000 events across the globe, with thousands of people showing up to each event to fight for our planet. However, now that it's over, things seem to be a little too quiet.

Well, that's not entirely true.

I'm sure you can hop on social media and find dozens of "breaking news" stories, but what are these stories actually about? You can find whatever stories you want about who dyed their hair for fashion week, the Biebers' wedding, who dared to crash a runway, and which Kardashian was going through a breakup this week. The world of news on social media isn't exactly quiet right now, but it isn't exactly providing us with the news we need or deserve, either.

If you want to find anything with more substance than the lives of celebrities, then you'll have to do a little more digging.

With the global climate strike being such a monumental moment in what will later be our history, I can't help but ask: Why is something as simple as fashion week more important than our current climate crisis? Why do we care more about celebrities, money, and fashion than our home?

As a society, we like the comfort zone of business as usual.

Throughout the climate strike, many activists were saying they want people to start acting like their house is on fire. At the time, I didn't understand their urgency. Now, as I watch the world continue on as if nothing's happening, I understand that level of urgency. In fact, I wish there was even more urgency coming from those in positions of power instead of from teenagers who are having their voices smothered every day.

For anyone still on the fence about believing in climate change, fret not. You don't have to believe in climate change because it already exists right in front of us. You just have to ask yourself: are you willing to continue on with business as usual?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
