6 Reasons Why Everyone Should Have a Long Distance Best Friend

Having a best friend is great, but having a long distance best friend is an amazing, bittersweet feeling. I have several long distance best friends and I couldn't be any happier. You may not see them often, but they are such a major part of your life. Everyone should have a long distance best friend at least one time in their life, and these are just a few reasons why long distance besties are the best friends you will have.

  1. They are unbiased to drama. Your long distance best friend obviously isn't around you on a daily basis like some of your other friends are. They have nothing to lose or gain from the situation, so when there's drama they are the perfect person to go to. They'll tell you exactly how they see it, they won't pick sides, and if you're causing unnecessary drama they'll definitely let you know.
  2. They are always willing to talk. Time zones may possibly be the worst thing to ever happen to you and your long distance bestie, but you always known they are only a text or call away. They might not be able to answer right away but they will always answer.
  3. They give the best advice. Boy troubles? Problems at school? Who needs a professional therapist when you have your best friend? I don't know what it is with my long distance bestie, but she always gives the best advice out of all my friends. Maybe it's because they're not around and maybe I just have a pretty awesome best friend. Either way I can promise you'll always get the best advice.
  4. They don't sugar-coat things. Along with giving the best advice, they won't sugar coats things and will tell you how it is. You don't have to worry about them walking on eggshells around you because there is no awkwardness between you two.
  5. You will learn to appreciate every conversation. You don't know when you'll see your best friend again, so every little conversation becomes precious. You could be talking about the most random, unimportant things, but those conversations will honestly make you smile the most. You may not be able to talk to them for a week, or longer, so you hold onto everything they've said.
  6. Reuniting with someone never felt so good. Don't get me wrong, seeing a friend after a few days apart is great, but seeing a friend after months, possibly longer, is an indescribable feeling. All the texts and calls don't add up to finally being able to give your best friend a hug.

If you don't have a long distance best friend, you need to go make one ASAP. They will change your life in amazing ways.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
