Why Everyone Should Go Greek

Even if you don't think it's "your thing."

Why Everyone Should Go Greek

"Sorority life just isn't my thing," she said to me with a little smirk. I smiled as sweetly as I could and responded, "I would seriously recommend going through recruitment. Even if you choose not to go Greek, it's still such great experience." If we hadn't just met in the line while buying coffee, and we weren't about to part ways, I could have gone on for hours about all of the amazing things that come with going greek. It's much, much more than a million over-sized t-shirts and throwin' what we know (although honestly, it does involve a lot of that). It's more than the movies, more than stereotypes. Greek life is way more than I could ever fit into this tiny article, but here's five things; five reasons why everyone should consider going greek.

1. Bid day.

Bid day is the start of it all. As long as I live, I don't think I'll ever forget opening up my bid card and reading my chapter's name, knowing that I would get to be a part of my dream house. Bid day was full of ear to ear smiles, perfectly orchestrated chaos, and genuine love for the sisters I had only just met.

2. The girls you meet along the way.

During recruitment, you get to know the girls in your rush group. While you wait in between parties, you have the chance to meet so many young women, all from different backgrounds and with different personalities, all there for the same reason: to go Greek. One of the best friends I have ever had the blessing of meeting, I met during recruitment week.

3. The many, many friendships you will make.

I have a fairly large family back home, but I never thought I would get to spend college with hundreds of sisters. Trust me, ladies, there is a chapter waiting to welcome you with open arms into their family.

4. You're the missing piece.

My sisters and I are not all the same; in fact, some of us are total opposites. But together, we make up our chapter- our home, and it is perfect to me in every way. And you, in all your uniqueness, are the perfect fit into our puzzle.

5. You are a part of something bigger than yourself.

If you want to improve the lives of thousands, a sorority's philanthropy is an excellent place to start. From Breast Cancer Education and Awareness to aiding those who are disabled, to funding Make A Wish, and so much more, sororities around the country are hard at work making a difference in a big way. Countless volunteer hours are spent bettering our community, our country, and the globe.

So maybe you didn't think sorority life was "your thing." But I can assure you, there's a place for you in one of your school's chapters. I promise, if you decide to go Greek, you won't regret it. But if you're still skeptical, try going through recruitment week. I'm fairly confident we can change your mind.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
