When people think of “the college experience” many people think about the endless amount of crazy stories they hear. Most of them are about parties and what happened after them. Don’t get me wrong, parties can sometimes be great, but there’s a long list of reasons why I don’t consider myself a “party girl.”
In college, most parties are synonymous with alcohol. Unfortunately, the majority of college students either aren’t aware of their limits or don’t care and push them anyway. This has consequences on your physical health and depending on your actions, your relationships with other people. Let’s not forget the alarming amount of sexual assaults and domestic violence cases that come with college parties.
Statistics from RAINN emphasize that sexual violence on campus is pervasive. RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization.
In addition, I don’t party because I don’t want to waste the whole next day feeling sick. I don’t want to wake up halfway through the day with a headache, throwing up or any of that nonsense that comes with a hangover.
There are even worse things that come with drinking and hangovers from college parties. Collegestats.com is another great resource for statistics. Two of the most striking are the fact that 31% of college students miss a class due to drinking and 22% have failed an exam or essay due to drinking, or that an estimated 1,825 students die yearly of unintended alcohol-related accidents, including motor vehicle accidents. drugs.
But you can always go to a party and not drink, right? Sure. In fact, you’d be smart to make this choice. Most people don’t because if they do, they will likely spend a lot of time feeling out of place. People will be in an entirely different state of mind, and they’re on an island alone with the other designated drivers.
Then, you get the honor of taking care of a car full of drunk people when the fun is all over. Nothing says “Happy Friday!” like coming home from a day of work or school, going out with your friends, but having to make sure they don’t vomit all over your car or apartment for the rest of the night.
Sure, going out with friends who know their limits every once in awhile can be fun. But I won’t be a “regular party girl” anytime soon.
