In June I took a trip to St. Louis, Missouri. This trip wasn't just any trip, it was a vacation. It was taken shortly after my father passed and after I graduated. Now, like I said, this trip wasn't just any trip, I didn't tell anyone I was going. I disappeared for a week and a half. I needed time to myself, to think and to reflect on what I wanted to do in life. This was a very eye-opening experience, driving for nearly 12 hours and taking in all the beautiful scenery along the way, but something during this trip really made me appreciate nature and taught me to take more risks and go on adventures.
During my "vacation" I went to a lovely place in Missouri called Lake Pomme De Tare (potato lake). I have never seen somewhere so beautiful in my life. I got to visit the dam and see a historical landmark of something that happened two miles from the spot the sign was placed. I was astounded by the lovely things I encountered. All the beautiful trees and sights and most importantly the city. I've always loved big cities and St. Louis definitely made it on my list to re-visit.
I went MIA because I needed to think. I needed some time to enjoy life in the simplest form with no distractions. Yes, I avoided texts and calls, but only because this was my time. After my dad passing and me graduating, I never really got time to myself. Going away for a while gave me my time back. It helped me feel better instead of hiding away.
To everyone who is traveling, don't tell anyone where you're going (with the exclusion of your parents) just go, travel, do crazy things, take risks, be unstoppable, but most importantly, don't let anyone try to tell you that you don't need to travel to a place where your heart longs to be. Be fearless when traveling and don't let anything hold you back from wanting the best for yourself.
