We are in the midst of a global pandemic, and it is becoming increasingly clear that when it ends, the world will not be able to go back to how it was pre-corona. There are a variety of reasons for this, one being that this situation has proven that the government, when pushed to solve problems, can do it in a timely manner. For instance, housing the homeless is something the US government has been strongly encouraged to do but has never really been an initiative for it. Since the spread and the increasing threat of coronavirus, cities across the US have upped their efforts to find temporary housing for the homeless. Furthermore, the US government is also apparently sending payments of $1200 to citizens/families who qualify for the support; if the government can afford to divert money for these efforts, why was it to able to do so before with other issues? What happened to the budget that it suddenly became wide enough to fit such things?
Another reason why society and the world will never be the same is because this pandemic has exposed flaws in basic systems across the globe: specifically the system of healthcare in the US where health insurance is tied to employment. People getting laid off due to the economic effects of corona cannot even afford to get proper medical care, which demonstrates how ineffective the US system is. Furthermore, in the US, the virus is spreading more and more because people are violating quarantine and still going out to meet with their friends and family despite multiple warnings. The rules are not enforced properly in the US, unlike other places like South Korea and China where strict rules have flattened the curve of the number of people affected.
Most of the world and the living generations have never experienced something like this, so we are all trying to adapt as a society. It would actually be alarming for the world to just revert back to the way it was before this virus came about because so much ha changed already. The true nature of humans has also been revealed by this virus; we will do anything to survive.
