Pride is necessary. There are people who suggest that there is no need for a Gay Pride celebration because after the Supreme Court court case of Obergefell, no matter the gender identity of your significant other you're allowed to marry them. The thing is, Pride is truly still very important and necessary.
One reason is because of the fact that people get upset watching shows like "How To Get Away With Murder" that has gay sex scenes from time to time. According to those that get upset, apparently homosexuality is being "shoved down their throats," although the show has just as many straight sex scenes.
Then there's the whole Target bathroom fiasco. People were saying they don't feel comfortable using the women's bathroom with someone who was born a man out of concern for the safety of their children. Little do they know that transgender people have already been using the bathrooms, according to the gender they identify as. The law was made in order to keep them from being thrown out of said bathrooms when someone "caught" them.
Next we have the fact that kids, no matter their age, whether or not they have gay parents, and the TV shows they watch and the friends they have, still have a chance of becoming lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, demisexual, pansexual, etc. That is something you won't be able to "prevent" by sending them to a straight camp, forcing them to wear clothes for a specific gender, act like the gender they were assigned at birth, or even forcing them to have sex with the opposite gender. If that's the case, then why not show them TV shows and movies where such behavior is completely normal? Show them that it's not weird and uncommon for them to feel different.
Finally, we have the recent case of the Orlando shooting. The guy shot and killed/injured more than 103 people at a gay nightclub, and 50 were confirmed dead. A main unpopular response included sentiments like, "It's fine, because they were gay and gay people are sick." The fact remains that although it's 2016 and the LGBTQ+ community has had many advancements in advancing the fair treatment of its members, people still act out against them in settings such as gay clubs; clubs designed especially for them, so they don't have to go to regular clubs and face poor treatment.
So for those who say that Pride isn't necessary and just a way for the gays to shove homosexuality down your throat, you need to sit down and think about the treatment they receive daily. You need to look at how members of the LGBTQ+ community are constantly being told that who they are isn't something to be proud of. And that's why they have parades and make it something to be proud of.
