Since when are things supposed to be “Picture Perfect”?
The idea of being picture perfect is a good thought, but highly flawed and unrealistic. Why is this?
As human beings, we are constantly questioning our every action. In today's society we especially need to triple check before we do anything. Sure, some things are definitely better left unsaid. Take the quote from Bambi for example, “If you don’t have nothing nice to say, don’t say nothing.” Good rule of thumb to live by. However, the day we left our innocence behind, might have been the same day our confidence began to shrink.
I like many struggled with being overly emotional. Then I realized that as much of a flaw I thought it was, it was also a gift. I discovered writing as a way to channel that emotion I felt in a positive way. After all, the Jewish believe that tears are the soap of the soul. When I first started writing I didn’t consider myself a writer. It began more of a way to clear the mind like a journal or self reflection piece. But I realized just how beneficial writing has been for me.
As for human beings, we are seriously flawed! Just look at the image in the front of this article, you might see a girl whose hair is a complete mess. But how you look at me might be completely different than the way I see myself. I feel nothing but happiness when I see the image, because I remember how happy I was when it was taken. I have a passion for photography, and that’s what the picture perfect moment is for me. That “Kodak moment” as they call it, because it’s priceless and brings so much joy when you see it. All the flaws of life can’t stop you from the joy you feel when you see that image.
Why is leaving the innocence of childhood behind such a huge mistake?
Remember when you used to look at a cardboard box like it was a magical spaceship or something. You managed to play with the box for about two hours rather than playing with the toy that came inside it. Simplicity is something us as a society need to go back to! We didn’t care that we drew outside the lines, or that we wore our shirts backwards because we didn’t care what others thought of us. When we conform to all of society's norms we also sometimes lose a part of our personality.
“The day you start living for yourself, and only yourself will be the day you genuinely become happy.”
As I come up on another Birthday, I have lots of wisdom I have gathered. One piece of wisdom I have gathered in the last 19 years, is that you have to live for yourself! Start loving yourself! You are just as valuable as that little innocent kid is! Don’t care how others perceive you because that little kid sure doesn’t! Being picture perfect in today's is totally unrealistic. Since I realized this piece of wisdom, I have learned to truly enjoy my own life. I became more observant of the blessings in my life and that’s where I began to put all my focus. Every person should have this feeling, because no one deserves to not be happy!
Since when were things supposed to be picture perfect? It’s quite simple really… no person is supposed to be picture perfect! And the situations we go through won’t be perfect either. I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason! So go back to the innocent little kid inside of you and start loving yourself like they did! As for the picture perfect moment, leave that job to the photographers and leave the idea of being picture perfect behind you!
