Are you already feeling stressed about your classes? Do you wish that you could touch your toes? Well look no further, because I've got the exercise program for you: Yoga!
Originating in India, yoga has been around for thousands of years. And hey, if it was good enough for them, it's even better for us. Here are four reasons why you should be practicing yoga:
1. Relieve stress
Yoga combines physical exertion with meditation. The exercises utilize your muscles, releasing endorphins in your brain for that feel good vibe. While the meditation focus your mind, letting you let go of your stresses. Moving from pose to pose, you quite literally push the stress from your mind.
2. Quiet your mind
Half of yoga is the movement of your body from pose to pose. While the other half is meditation. At each practice, you are led on a spiritual journey of sorts. Sitting on your mat in a relaxing pose, your mind is free to flow. Soft music soothes your thoughts, helping you to reach an inner peace.
3. Tone your muscles
Typically when you exercise at the gym, you're repeating a movement with a set weight, working one muscle at a time. But when you are moving through the many poses of a yoga, you are engaging multiple muscles. All without clunky weights dragging you down.
4. Be more flexible
You may be thinking yoga is just fancy stretching, but you would be wrong. The many simple and complex poses of yoga build flexibility and strength. Continued practice has been shown to improve your health.
As a person suffering from a back injury, let me tell you, i thoroughly enjoy practicing yoga. Particularly the poses that involve a "spinal twist." Everyone ought to practice yoga, its as simple as common sense.
Why wouldn't you want to be healthier, feel better and look better? You owe it to yourself to be all you can be. So why aren't you at yoga?
