It is almost a given that cigarettes are mentioned in any discussions of vaping, due to how related both are, and how similarly they function. Additionally, most vapers today were smokers at some point in their lives, and would still be if not for the introduction of vapes.
However, it is not all acceptance and joy for the vape industry, as the act of vaping is still frowned upon in some circles and societies. In fact, some countries have made specific laws banning the use or advertisements of anything vape-related. Some other countries have simply decided to include vapes in their tobacco laws when actually, vaping is entirely different from tobacco smoking regarding the effects that each act has on the body.
Scientifically, not enough studies have been carried out that directly compare the effects of vaping to cigarette smoking. This is because the people in the field would rather eliminate any use of nicotine.
Take, for example, carrying out a study involving a direct comparison of the two would show that vapor is actually a lot safer than smoke. Alternatively, carrying out a survey comparing vapor with clean air would obviously indicate that clean air is much better. But this study would not serve the purpose of showing why vaping is safer than smoking cigarettes, would it?
Why are vape pens healthier than cigarettes, though?
For one, over sixty years of scientific research has proven that smoking is a hazardous habit. Apart from the fact that it is easy to become addicted, it has also been stated that nearly half of all long-term smokers will die from the effects of smoking. Now, vaping is a considerably newer act than smoking, but no factual research has established that vaping is an act that could be fatal to any percentage of people who perform it.
Secondly, smoking has been known to be a leading cause of various cancers, including blood, bladder, larynx, liver, cervix, colon and rectum, lung, mouth and throat, stomach, pancreas, esophagus and trachea, kidney and renal pelvis cancer. Now, the cause for the addiction to cigarettes can be traced to the presence of nicotine – and this is also present in vapes.
However, the nicotine itself has no connection to cancer caused by smoking. In fact, a report by the 2016 Royal College of Physicians proved this.
The cancer is caused by the combustion of tobacco, which is absent in vapes. The smoke forms a substance called ‘tar', and this coats delicate parts of the internal organs, causing tumor growth when it piles up over time.
The National Cancer Institute’s study proved that the cancer-causing substances are found in this tar formed from cigarette smoke. Once again, this can only be associated with cigarette smoking. None of these effects is present in vapor, because e-cigarettes do not produce tar. They do not even contain tobacco.
If you do a bit of research by yourself, trying to find any study that “proves” that vapes are just as harmful to the body as cigarettes are, you will see for yourself that these studies were carried out poorly, with little or no real evidence, and in unrealistic conditions/situations that will not happen to real vapers.
Simply put, using vape pens is safer than smoking cigarettes, until further notice.
