During this election season, I have heard a number of my classmates say that they are not planning on voting. Many Americans have decided that they would rather not vote at all than support either Trump or Clinton.
Too many people have lost sight of how important it is to vote. America was discovered because people wanted to be free to make decisions, such as who is running the country.
Women did not even receive the right to vote until 1920. Hundreds of American women were arrested for protesting and standing up for their cause. Without courageous women such as Alice Paul, Lucy Burns, Susan B. Anthony, and many more, women today would not be able to vote for Trump or Clinton. Because of them I applied for absentee ballot two months in advance.
While both candidates are flawed and have offended the majority of Americans, they are not the only names on the ballot. People need to vote to keep judges or not and issues that affect certain states.
People are too distracted by the extreme things that both candidates have said and done, that they are too distracted to realize that both of them do have issues that they stand for that most Americans would like to either support or not.
Donald Trump has stated that he is pro life, wants to stop illegal immigration, and eliminate the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. Hillary Clinton has stated that she is pro choice, make illegal immigrants American citizens, and end gun violence.
Personally, I am excited to get to participate in my first presidential election. Although, much like many of my classmates, I have been offended by something that Trump or Clinton haas done, however, that will not prevent me from exercising my right to vote.
Almost every American that can vote has formed their own opinions on issues that affect the country. Personally, it does not make sense to me why anyone would not want to exercise their right to vote. If there is a single issue that an American citizen feels passionate about, it would make sense that they would want to support it.
