So you're frustrated with the current state of affairs, just like I am.
Of course we've always been told in our civics classes to contact our congressmen. That's how they say democracy works, after all - you have to use your voice. I called the offices of some senators and my congressmen about my concern with the federal hiring freeze, and they all said the same thing: "The senator [or congressman] will do what he can, but there's only so much he can do." A lot of what's going down right now is directly from executive power. Congress can have some leeway, but there are some things in the President's toolbox that are *dare I say it* a trump card.
Trump is of course the head of the executive branch, so him putting that freeze on federal hiring (basically just executive branch hiring)? That's all within his power. It sucks and it's a terrible idea, but it is within his power. So what to do if I want my voice to be heard? Take it straight to the top. The White House has had a comment line open for anyone who wished to call and talk to a real human being about their concerns for the country. But there's a problem - it's kind of... gone.
Don't be fooled, there are a lot of rumors going around that Trump's staff shut it down intentionally because they didn't want to hear the country's criticism. That's not exactly true. Basically when Obama left, the line got shut off, and the Trump team hasn't turned it back on yet. Anyone who tries to call the number is told by an answering machine to send a message to a White House Facebook Messenger account... the Trump team hasn't turned that back on yet either. So what's left? Well, you can write an email, but it looks pretty dubious that that will get read any time soon.
So we're left in a pretty aggravating predicament. A lot of people are outraged by many of Trump's proposals and policies from only his first week in office: the wall, the hiring freeze, the block of Muslim refugees, the black-out of government scientists, the reinstatement of the gag order on abortion, etc. You can always hand-write a letter of course - those tend to get attention pretty well. But what if we want this to be quick and make sure our concerns come before a real human being?
Looks like Creative Majority PAC might have a mischievous solution. Trump has caused quite a bit of controversy after he simply shifted control of his massive real estate corporation over to his sons, but still kept an ownership stake in it (this may, in fact, be unconstitutional). So if the President still claims all these hotels and resorts and golf courses as his own and the contact information for these places are public knowledge... does that mean we can attempt to contact the President by those means? Creative Majority seems to think so. That big gold tower out in Las Vegas? According to them, that's just another White House to Trump - and one with an open phone line
Creative Majority has created an organization to get your voice heard: White House Inc. Wanna give it a try? Here's how it works:
1. Go to their website.
2. Enter your email address and phone number in the yellow pane to the right and hit "Make the Call!" Creative Majority has a phone service that will connect you to their own line and then, without divulging your number, connect you to a random Trump property somewhere in the US.
3. The service will call you in a second or two. Answer and it will begin connecting you to a golf course, hotel, or what have you. Try again if there's no answer.
4. Speak your mind on where our country's headed! Be polite and courteous, of course. Let them know why you're calling: because President Trump hasn't renounced his stake in company yet.
Alright, y'all, fire away - let's get to it!
