What Should We Do After Watching 13 Reasons Why?

Jay Asher's hit mystery novel 13 Reasons Why just came out with its first season on Netflix. The show has gained a lot of public attention especailly because one of its producers is hit singer and actress Selena Gomez. For those who have not watched, it is the story of Hannah Baker who has committed suicide. Before she died, she recorded tapes of all the people who played a big part in her suicide and each tape gets passed to everyone and once whoever finishes it, they pass it to the next person who follows them in the tapes.

So where do we go after watching? This show changes you after you watched Hannah be destroyed by people she thought were trustworthy. We need to help put a stop to bullying. We need to stand with each other and help each other instead of pushing someone down because you think that it will make you better or "cooler". It is easier said than done but changing one little thing at a time will help in the long run. Smile at a stranger, do nice things for your friends or even someone you do not like that much, just be kind. These may seem pointless and not helpful but to someone who is contemplating taking their lives, one kind gesture can make them stay another day.

Hannah Baker could have been saved. All she needed was someone to help her realize that she had so much potential and that she was loved and needed. I think the moral of the story is we need to watch how we treat people. It is not okay to treat people like they are below us or that they do not deserve to be respected. Everyone is fighting an internal battle and you never know how people will be affect by you "just joking around". A joke to you may be the final straw to another.

There is someone struggling like Hannah Baker in all of our lives. Where ever you are reading this look around you. See the kid sitting by themselves at lunch? See the kid whose smile does not reach all the way to his or her eyes? Maybe your best friend has been a little off lately or even you. 13 Reasons Why presents a very difficult issue in a brutally honest way, and I think we needed this wake up call.Together, we can help one of the Hannah Baker's out there, and eventually we can help save them all.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
