My Top 3 Reading Spots, Ranked

As someone who reads at least two books a month, people are often shocked to hear that I almost never do any of my reading while in my apartment. There are a few reasons for this - but the biggest one is probably that I'm almost never home, and when I am, I like to just sit down and do...nothing. Which, to me, means re-binging a sitcom I've already seen at least five times, so my brain can shut down. In order to keep reading though, I tend to read a lot of ebooks, or else carry around a book at all times. When doing so, here are some of the most common places you can spot me reading:

1. Outside

I've written articles on how to embrace Chicago's warmer weather in inexpensive ways, but nothing is cheaper than grabbing a book and going to the closest beach or park. Hours can easily go by in this way, and as I've mentioned, Chicago has plenty of "take a book, leave a book" boxes, which then helps me replenish my library when I inevitably finish my current book.

2. Coffee shops

During colder months, I can often be seen at a coffee shop with a warm beverage and a book. I often show up for things early, and during that time - especially when it's cold outside - I find the nearest coffee shop and read away. There has recently been a rise in "book bars" and while I'm waiting for Chicago to catch up, I'll be at Starbucks.

3. CTA

Even though sometimes the train is so crowded that even holding a book or turning a page may be a challenge, when I'm able to get a seat to myself, rides and reading progress go by much quicker as I'm able to read at least 50 pages per commute. I find that incorporating reading into my daily schedule helps me stay the most on track with my reading goals. For example, I inevitably have to commute, so I may as well get some reading done on the way.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
