Spring semester is in full swing, and with that comes stress. Sometimes, the stress is just too unbearable to handle and we end up shutting down rather than using it to fuel ourselves and accomplish our goals. Too much stress is unhealthy; here are 8 ways to conquer stress, relax, and get you back on track!
1. Take deep breaths.
I don't know the science behind this, but breathing deeply in through the nose and out through the mouth slowly releases tension in your body.
2. Lay down and tense all your muscles.
Then, slowly relax each muscle, making sure only to relax one muscle at a time, starting from your head and working all the way down to your feet. You'll feel instantly relaxed.
3. Dim the lights and listen to calming music.
Bright lights are just uncomfortable and listening to piano music or nature sounds are super soothing.
4. Make a cup of tea.
The warmth of the tea plus the sweetness of the honey will make you feel like you're getting a much-needed warm hug.
5. Run a bath.
Similar to the tea, it will relax you and make you feel safe.
6. Write out your feelings in a journal.
I truly believe the best therapy is writing. Write out everything you feel--pour your heart out to the pages ad you'll feel a weight come off your chest. Plus, these words are only for your eyes.
7. Read your favorite book.
There's nothing like a good book to pull you into the world of literature and distract you.
8. Get help if you need it.
If you find yourself unable to relax despite trying your best efforts, it's OK to go and get professional help. It will help you in the long run when it comes to handling stress.
