Summer isn't always just fun at the beach or hanging out with friends.
Many students now have the free time that allows them to work as much as they need to. Depending on whether you truly enjoy your job or not, work can be one of the worst places to be. Everybody is thinking about how to kill time at work. Especially if every day at work is a slow day, here are five things you could do while waiting clock out.
1. Daydream
A good way to combat boredom is to embrace it. When you're bored, your mind tends to wander, daydreaming about your own ideals. Thinking about what you would be doing instead always makes you appreciate your free time a little more. Spend some time thinking about what you would rather do instead, how you wish things were, what you plan to do after work.
2. Check Your Phone
This is a risky one. This also arguably makes work go by slower if you do this frequently. But your cellphone is still your best bet to entertain yourself at work. Have a conversation through text with an unemployed friend, or one with a similarly boring job. This will make you remember that you are a human being and not just some obedient employee.
3. Go to The Bathroom
This is a good way to kill time. Hiding in the stalls where your boss cant find you. Spacing out bathroom breaks in between normal breaks is a good strategy to get as much space as possible while confined at work. Try to crank out as many breaks as possible because they are not only important for mental and physical well-being ,but also for your productivity.
4. Talk to Co-workers
If work feels like the last thing you want to do, try to change your approach. Try to have more conversations with your coworkers, or get to know them outside the office to create a warmer work atmosphere. Making small talk with co-workers sounds terrible but it could actually help you get through your shift and pass the time. Chatting and joking with those you work with can give you the inspiration you need to carry on with your work.
5. Quit
Searching for a new job and eventually quitting your current boring job is the best way to relieve you of your boredom at work. Prolonged feelings of boredom while at work is probably a sign that you're not doing what you want to be doing. This can inevitably lead to negative effects down the road if you don't address your boredom.
