Going away for college entails some goodbyes… Or a lot of goodbyes if you’re going far away. I think goodbyes are probably one of the hardest things about college, and these days, it is more common to go away for college. I have friends from high school at colleges all the way from California to Chicago, and friends that are still in my hometown.
I’m sure I’m speaking for college students all across the nation when I say this even though I’ve made amazing new friends at college, I miss my hometown friends so much.
The random FaceTime calls, funny Snapchats, and letters back and forth tide us over, but can never replace the awesome times that you have in person together. It’s not easy to say goodbye to these friends at the end of the summer knowing you won’t see some of them again until Thanksgiving or Christmas.
The anticipation of the short visits and time spent together during breaks helps get us through the separation. There are some awesome reunions and fun times to look forward to when you’re all together again.
Staying in touch through social media is great and all, but everyone knows that college students love mail. Especially when you get a package, letter, or card from one of your best friends at a different school. It’s pretty cool to be able to put together a package of goodies or things from your school and send them to a friend, too.
It’s just another way to show them that you care so much!
It’s pretty awesome to have proud moment of your friends, too. They’re all doing such awesome things at their different schools, and of course you want nothing but for your friends to succeed! (Proud mom moment).
My friends have been there for me through my worst times of high school, and my best times. Good friends never fail to show support for one another, and I can very luckily and thankfully say that I have friends like that in my life.
Obviously Michael Scott put it best, “Friendship. Awesome blossom, with extra awesome.”
