When You Give Jesus Control

He'll probably cause a scene and flip all the tables.

When I accepted Jesus back into my life three years ago, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. All I knew was that life was so much better with Him in it, and it had much more meaning, love, and growth. What I had forgotten, however, was that having Jesus in your life meant that it was going to be a crazy, chaotic, out-of-control ride because Jesus can be a wild driver when He wants to be. I bet you He would be jamming to some really sweet hipster Hillsong music, too.

When you let Jesus take control of your life, like really really take control, amazing things happen. All of those perfectly laid out plans you had get thrown in the trash. You do way too many things out of your comfort zone. You meet people you would never have associated yourself with before. And you find yourself asking “Why God? Why on earth did you put me in this position?” Sounds fun, doesn’t it?

Trust me, it is. Letting Jesus lead your life is one of the most exciting, adventurous, and faithful things you can ever do for yourself. He takes the most broken pieces of your heart and turns them into the most beautiful creations. He takes you as an empty shell of a human and fills you with life and meaning so you are now a strong child of God. He gives you dreams that you could never have imagined, desires that you would never have thought of, and a vision that is entirely His own. He will use you. In the best way possible.

The catch? You gotta give Him everything. He needs to be in complete control, guiding your thoughts and actions. You can't be one of those dads that lets their kids “drive” the car on their lap, while secretly controlling the pedals and steering wheel. You need to move your butt over to the passenger seat, and let Jesus step in and drive. Submit everything, every part of you, every fear, every doubt, every mistake. He doesn't care if you think you’re broken, unworthy, or too sinful. He wants you as you are, and He will use those parts of you to move mountains and be a change in the world.

He doesn't ask for a lot from us, just basically that we show up. Show up, and be open minded to where He is about to take you. It is going to be a wild ride filled with happiness and adventure, but also with hardships and despair. Do not lose faith in those trials, and do not try to steal the wheel from Jesus, because He will totally give you the stink eye. He is taking you to exactly where you need to be. To grow, to learn, to love, and to find purpose in this sinful world. Submit yourself, and let the Jesus man drive and jam to His Hillsong music with you in the passenger seat.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
