When You Don't Get What You Want

Trust me, you're going to get what you need.

When You Don't Get What You Want
Lyric Of

It's the oldest story in the book. You get your heart set on something. That something could be a job you had your eyes on, a dream you've dreamed your whole life, a goal you set that you just couldn't reach, or many other things. When these things don't go our way, there is almost instantly a feeling of disappointment. The disappointment is soon followed by doubt, and before you know it you are coming down way to hard on yourself for something you did that probably prevented you from achieving that goal. In all of this my friend, you are wrong.

As we grow, so do our dreams. Sometimes we let them go and dream new ones, but no matter how long you have wanted something, the moment you do not get it seems to take you by surprise. Thats the thing with having goals so big they scare you, there is always a chance that you will not achieve them. Your short coming might be from no fault of your own, and that is hard for us to understand. When things do not go right in our lives we need to find a place to put the blame. There has to be a person who is responsible for all of this bad, but the fact of the matter is sometimes things will not work out. Sometimes, your dream will not come true.

That is a very tough pill to swallow in my opinion. Sometimes we are not good enough. Why do we dream dreams anyway if we will only be left with disappointment? I think the answer is simple, not necessarily the one we want to hear, but it is simple. Things do not work out in our lives simply because they are not meant to. If you spent hours and hours preparing for an interview, and did not get the position, it would leave you feeling down. What happens if you would have been given the position and it turned out to be awful? What happens if i turned out to be everything you dreamed of, but something better came along? For all of this and more we have to be thankful for the unknown.

Things happen in our lives for a reason. We are given this life because we are strong enough to live it. There will always be things you fall short from, just as much as there will be things you achieve. Although you think you dreams are nonnegotiable, as you grow in your life you will find new things to push you. You are not determined by the things you do not achieve, but rather you are defined by the effort you put forth to achieve them. There are going to be so many things in your life you will achieve that they will outweigh the failures. You are not always going to get what you want, but dream big anyway. Above all else you have to remember that you are not guaranteed what you want in life, but you will undoubtedly get exactly what you need.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
