When People Say, 'You Have No Spirit Because You Leave Halfway Through,' Here’s Why

Don't criticize those who leave early if you aren't there for the actual game.

When people say, “You have no spirit because you leave halfway through or sell your ticket,” here’s why. School spirit is not walking around on game day dressed super nice so you can feel good and getting drunk and going as a gameday date with that boy from Sigma Apple Pie.

Football is more than frats and alcohol and “going to the game to be with a date and dress pretty.” Those who blindly go to games for these reasons without actually knowing a lick about football will be the ones to say “you have no school spirit” when you’re the one who is actually going to watch the game.

The games this year have been less than average. The closest game was against Texas A&M where The Crimson Tide only won by 1 touchdown. Other than that, every game has been dominated by The Crimson Tide all season, and if you had a home game package, all of the games on that package were the ones where we dominated.

It is understandable that game days are super fun. The festivities alone are enough to travel to Tuscaloosa for a Saturday in the fall. My parents do it a lot. They'll just come down and not even go to the game. It's super fun.

However, there is a different breed — those who go just for festivities and getting "rowdy" in the stands while not even watching the competition that is taking place on the field. These are the ones you should worry about. These are the ones who will lecture you on leaving a game early when they aren't even involved in what's happening on the field. It's just about the "experience" of going to the game.

Well, it's easy to "stay for four" when you aren't even involved in the competition.

It's not about the boy from Sigma Apple Pie that you are going to the game with, it's not about the cheers that you blindly chant without reason because you are a "true fan." A true fan is one who is there to cheer on the team, and not sit pretty for the boy they went with.

The reason some leave the game early is that they are there for entertainment. Let me ask you this... if you already knew halfway through who would win "American Idol," or "The Voice," would you continue to tune in? No.

Leaving a game early should not be as scrutinized as it is, as many people who actually know the game, can calculate the odds of a win and decide for themselves if they want to stay or not they don't need your help, so keep it to yourself.

At one point, I was in the stands, and I kid you not I heard a girl ask her date "We are the red ones right?"

It saddens me that there is such a hate for people who leave early, because it all comes back to being one and being united as a fan base. So please, just enjoy the game, and if you don't like someone leaving early, keep it to yourself.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
