Just picture it. The ripped muscles, the suspenders half-on half-off, the glistening body, the helmet that somehow looks oh so sexy. I think you already know what I'm describing. Every women's firefighter fantasy. Let me tell you what it's like having a real firefighter in your life.
Let me give you a little background regarding the whole firefighter thing. The man I'm dating happens to be a volunteer firefighter. He's a great guy and his line of work is so important to me and so many others. Most people don't realize what happens behind the scenes in the firehouse and in the lives of these volunteers. But I will be writing this article from my perspective and what the experience has been for me.
First of all, the firehouse is pretty awesome. After a while, I was given the grand tour. Fire engines line the garage. My favorite part is where they keep their gear. It seems so surreal to think that they can grab their gear and throw it on so quickly. To me it's so fascinating how everything works and that they have their inside jokes and that I get to be a part of it, even if it's in a small way.
The worry starts to kick in once you realize that he actually fights fires and it's not all just for show. There are certain levels of involvement once you're a part of the fire department and you have to build up to being fully involved and allowed to do some of the more dangerous stuff. As the girlfriend of a firefighter, it's worrisome at some points but honestly I know that he will be safe and that he has people backing him god forbid something happens. As soon as I get that text, no matter what time it's at, everything is ok. The work that he does is so crucial to so many. Sometimes people don't appreciate them enough, but I can't thank him enough.
Proud girlfriend moment!
