When A Friend Goes Home

There is no greater loss than that of a loved one.

I have found myself questioning why God does some of the things that he does. Why do bad things happen to good people? This past Labor Day, my university lost a beautiful young soul in a tragic car accident. She was in her third week of her freshman year, had just performed her first game as a Marching Ballerina and was coming home to her best friends who are, understandably, completely heartbroken. I didn't know this young lady, and I feel like I really missed out on a special friendship. But this feeling, this loss, is unfortunately all to familiar to me. As a freshman in high school, I would attend my first funeral of a friend who went home to God. As a senior, I would attend my second, and as a freshman in college, I attended my third. I have cried enough tears to swim my way to heaven, I have know the heavy heart, the sleepless nights, and the lonely days. Hear me when I say I understand. I also understand that in moments like these, when we have no idea what God is doing, that it's so hard to turn to him. We're angry and hurt and betrayed. But there is no greater comfort than turning to an almighty God! A God who has the power to call a loved one home, a God who can heal a broken heart, a God who makes all things good. The will of God will never lead you where the Grace of God cannot keep you! It will be hard for a while, no doubt, I like to say "it will be okay, just not today," so maybe tomorrow. So when you're lost in your sadness, when your heart is so heavy it's hard to breathe, when you ache for your friend, lean on God to take that burden. Pray for peace in your heart, and it will come. Pray for the strength to carry on, and most of all, pray for the strength to live for your friend and to do their memory justice. It will come. God is so good, even when it seems like he isn't and how beautiful is it to know that your friend, that beautiful Katie Beth, that Ryan, Phillip and Sam are standing with The Lord waiting for us to come home to them? That alone gives me more hope and fills me with more love than I deserve. Remember that there is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still. Let this loss serve as a reminder to constantly love on those around you. Tomorrow is not promised and God is powerful. Bring people to him and never take a single breath for granted. We may not have the answers to why God does the things that he does, but trust him even when it hurts because he is an amazing and wonderful God. One day we'll get the answers straight from the source and that makes me happy on my most difficult day.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
