I'm just gonna say it: Shmoop is my trusty steed.
During the school year, I barely have enough time to do my laundry, let alone devote several hours to sitting down and reading a book. I hate that I've resorted to this, because as a kid I used to love reading. My parents would literally have to tear me away from whatever story I was caught up in just to come eat dinner. Reading books for school is a drag, even when it's something I would enjoy if I'd picked it on my own.
Naturally, this thought progression made me wonder, when did we stop reading for fun?!
Literally me when I asked myself this question
I mean seriously, can you even recall the last time you picked out a book and read it an enjoyable pace?
For me, the first one that came to mind was a book I embarked on during spring break, only to get 40 pages in and forget about it until now.
I propose we make a change!
Dig down deep inside to the time when reading was a winding path on a long journey, with an exciting twist at every turn of the page. To the time when you were crushing on Percy Jackson instead of Zac Efron. To the time when your number of "AR points" was more important than your number of followers. To the Scholastic Book Fairs, which were wayyyy cooler than school dances...
I feel you, Sam.
Remember those classics you know and love: the Percy Jackson series and its Egyptian counterparts, Harry Potter, the Chronicles of Narnia, Mysterious Benedict Society, HUNGER GAMES, Twilight, Magic Treehouse, Pretty Little Liars, Matched & Crossed, Eragon, Animorphs, Goosebumps, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, anything by John Green...
Rummage through your old bookshelf, or hit up a used book sale. Most thrift stores have great selections (and as we all know, I'm a huge proponent of thrifting). My basic point is toget out the heavy artillery, aka, as many books as your heart desires.
I'm on a mission to help us fall in love with reading again.
Kick back, throw that phone across the room, and get to it.
Live footage of me right now.
(And please please please share book suggestions with me, 'cause I'm right there with you on this one).
Happy reading!
