There are so many aspects of the collegiate experience. The social aspect is one of them. Collegiate sporting events, Greek life and parties are standout events most teens look forward to when they’re heading to college. While they may be tons of fun, it’s also important to remain safe. While in college, you’ll probably enjoy your fair share of college parties. Remain these words when you’re preparing to have fun.

Never Leave a Drink Unattended

Never leave a drink unattended because someone can drop a drug or unknown substance in it. When you pick the drink and consume it, it can have really negative effects. When someone drops something in your drink, the goal is to break down your senses and judgment so they can take advantage of you. Always keep your drink in your hand. If you buy a drink, sit down, enjoy it and get back to partying. You can also bring the drink with you while you party. The most important part is that it is always with you.

Bring Your Own

If you’re in an environment that’s new and you don’t know what to expect, consider bringing your own fun. Consider purchasing your own equipment to carry with you to the parties. You don’t know where people get their drinks, food or entertainment from. Staying free from germs is essential to your health. In many cases, it’s best to stay safe and bring your own. Just like there’s a popular acronym that encourages people to bring their own beer (B.Y.O.B), the same applies to water bongs and any other recreational tools you choose to indulge in.

Assign a Designated Driver

As soon as you decide you’d like to attend a specific party, create an exit strategy. It’s important to decide your exit strategy for safety purposes. If you’re going to drive to the party, know that you just can’t drink or you need to find someone you trust to be a designated and sober driver.

Trust Your Gut

You have instincts for a reason. When you’re in college, you don’t have mommy and daddy to lean on to swoop in and save the day. This is especially true if you’ve gone to a college that’s out of state. No matter what, trust your gut. Whether it’s a college party or a late night study session in the library, if it feels uncomfortable, go home. You don’t necessarily need to know all the details or facts. In many cases, it’s much better to be safe than sorry. If something looks sketchy, immediately go home.

Don’t just take these tips into consideration. Consider these words to abide by. When you enter the collegiate experience, you want to make sure you exit the experience safely and successfully. By following these rules, you’ll be in great shape.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
