What is your "MIT"?
Coffee. Food. Sleep. Money. Boyfriend/Girlfriend. Family.
Those things are the "Most important thing" for some people. What's your MIT? Whatever you fill in the blank with, that is what you care about the most. Your MIT will get the most of your attention, time and effort.
Your MIT reveals where your heart is, what you truly care about.
That's a neat thing about the heart; you can't hide what flows from it. What you value most, care about most, give the most time, is what is in your heart.
Here's a story that might help you better understand what I'm talking about. Check this out:
"But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together. One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And He said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.""
-Matthew 22:34-40
There was a time where these extremely strict religious people called the Pharisees tried to trick Jesus. They wanted to know what his MIT was -- how did Jesus respond?
Love God, love others. It's as simple as that. For Jesus, the most important thing for him was to love God FIRST, and then love others. That's what flowed from his heart.
Let me queue you in on a little secret, friend.
You're not on this earth simply to make money, get nice things, find a nice spouse and live a good life. You're on this earth to love God, and to love others.
Everything else in this life flows from those two things. When we're not loving God and loving others first, things get out of whack. Don't believe me? That's okay. Keep trying to make yourself happy with that significant other; with money; with nice things. Let me know when you get there!
Friend, here is my encouragement to you. The most important thing in my life and your life should be loving God, and loving others.
Is earning money, having nice things, having a significant other bad? Not at all!! However, when those things become the priority in our lives, we need to step back and reprioritize.
Now this is easier said than done. We have to constantly work to keep our priorities in check, to keep the MIT, the MIT! It's not easy, however, it's worth it. We can only love and care for others rightly when our walk with God is the priority.
