What’s In My Backpack: College Edition

I am going into my sophomore year of college at Missouri State University (go bears!) and I have the ultimate list of things to put in your backpack. I linked almost all the products mentioned in the headlines so you can buy and enjoy as well!

To start, let's look at which backpack I have.

North Face Borealis Backpack (Color: Tin Grey)

North Face

This backpack is great for many reasons. The Borealis has lots of room for your school supplies, and will not weigh you down. According to North Face, this backpack is waterproof which will come in handy when it rains on campus. Plus, they look super cute as well! I got this in the color “tin grey” (the one shown above). I love light colors because they go with everything.

MacBook Air

I absolutely LOVE my MacBook Air. It is super light weight and easy to take with me. The thing I love about MacBooks compared to other brands is that all your iCloud stuff is synced with your phone. This means you can text on it, FaceTime, update contacts, etc. I find it very handy to answer a text quickly in class without getting my phone out and disturbing everyone.

iPad and Apple Pencil

I just recently bought an iPad 7th generation and fell in love immediately. If you like writing notes down, but hate using paper, you need an iPad. I use the app “Notability” and import all the lecture slides to write directly on them. This allows me to write notes about deeper material instead of copying what’s on the slide word for word.

Accordion Folder

Walmart

I have found that having an accordion folder in college makes life much easier. Instead of having a different folder or binder for each class, I can keep all my stuff in one place. The one I got is linked above and shown in the picture. I absolutely love it! I keeps me so organized.

Pencil Pouch

Amazon

Can you spot the color theme? I love my greys and whites. In all seriousness though, this Homecube is amazing for holding your writing utensils. I have pencils, pens, an eraser, sticky notes, white out, and lead in mine. Everything is so organized because there’s a place for everything to go. This is much easier than throwing everything into a regular pencil pouch.

AirPods

CaseMate

I cannot go to college without my AirPods. I usually put them in while walking from class to class. These earbuds are such good quality and they look great too. I keep these AirPods on one of my zippers on my backpack. I have a cute CaseMate case for them as well (picture above). You can find them here.

Esty Louis Vuitton Keychain (only $9!)

personal photo

Look at how sparkly and cute this thing is!! I came across it on Etsy and I had to buy it. This keychain is so cute and will add a bit of glam and personalization to your backpack. You are able to chose the color or the letters and the color of the tassel as well!

Power Bank Charger

target

I love this specific power bank charger because one, it’s small, and two, it lasts a lot longer than other leading brands. I think every college student should have a power bank in their bag just in case their device dies and they can’t find an outlet.

Adorable and Cheap Water Bottle

target

Personally, I suck at drinking the amount of water that my body needs. I feel more motivated when I have a cute water bottle to use though! Plus, this water bottle is only $6.

3 Apple Chargers

I carry a lot of Apple chargers because I never know if someone else will need one. Also because I have three Apple devices in my backpack: my phone, AirPods, and iPad.

Mini Wallet

Coach

I like having a mini wallet for my backpack and a normal sized one for my purse. Having a small wallet is convenient because you can carry it in your bag without it taking up space. I linked the one I bought from Coach. It is shown above. And yes, I know... it’s white. Don’t be surprised.

Extra Earbuds

Apple

I keep these in my backpack in case my AirPods die or if one of my friends needs to use them.

Hygiene Items

I have a small brush, deodorant, perfume, and nail clippers in my backpack. Again, you never know when you will need them.

Pouch of Quarters

Amazon

If you’re anything like me, I get hungry when I am on campus, and sometimes I don’t have time to sit down and eat at the dining halls. This is why I live for vending machines. Keep a little coin purse in your backpack so you don’t have to ask around for any.

Medicine

I always carry Ibuprofen, Excedrin, and Allegra with me because I never know when I, or a friend, will need them.

Emergency Cash

I think every college student should carry extra cash in their backpack. It doesn’t have to be a large amount, but enough to buy you, let’s say, emergency gas. I keep around $30 in my backpack.

There's a safe way to date right now and yes, it includes masks.

137552

While some people would rather opt out of dating altogether during the pandemic so they don't have to wear a mask on a first date, others are choosing to listen to both guidelines and their heart in order to find love during the time of coronavirus (COVID-19).

In our patriarchal society, men hide from their feelings, but toxic masculinity is literally killing men. They swallow the pain and move on so that they can look, feel, and act "tough."

But, strength is derived from asking for help and voicing your struggle and, trust me, working on your mental health is one hell of a struggle. The real way to "man up" is to acknowledge the downfalls in unjust societal norms. Mental health problems do not mean that a man is weak, they are neurologically-based disorders that require professional treatment.

Sorry, But 'I Don’t Care About Politics' Is Not A Valid Excuse For NOT Voting

The younger generation of voters is so crucial to the upcoming election because our vote is going to shape the world that we are about to enter as adults.

30177

When I ask my friends if they are voting this term most of them respond with "no" followed by an explanation of "I don't care enough," "It doesn't affect me," or "I don't keep up with politics," etc. I get it, as a college student I know that there are many other things to be concerned about like school, relationships, work, and friends. I also understand that keeping up with politics can seem like trying to keep up with an over-exaggerated reality show that has way too many seasons. Not to mention most news stations and websites are biased so it's hard to decipher if what you hear is true or fake.

However, despite all of this annoyance, as the next generation of Americans, we have to remember that we owe it to ourselves, our families, and to our futures to care.

Two of my favorite things in life are reading and books. Obviously, they go hand-in-hand. In my life, I've realized that there is nothing better than learning about the current world or getting fully immersed in another world. Reading can inspire, teach, and entertain you.

For me, the feeling of opening a book and smelling that fresh book smell can't compete with anything else.

20 Books About Latin And Hispanic Heritage Absolutely Everyone Should Have On Their Bookshelf

Any ally of the community needs to be reading these incredible reads.

I go through phases when it comes to what I like to read. I am typically reading two books at any given time: one serious nonfiction and one escapist fiction novel to have on hand and open up depending on my mood.

What remains consistent, however, amongst most of my fellow bibliophiles is a desire to try new and different authors and genres. I, as an Indian woman, have been partial to reading books written by fellow Indian and Desi writers since I first got a library card.

I Asked 46 Women What They Thought About The Term 'Plus-Size', And Here's What They Had To Say

It's 2020, where change is inevitable and norms are not only questioned, but challenged.

5088

We live in a world where it's become customary to push boundaries, break rules, and question standards upheld by society. Though try as we might, some of these standards are harder to conquer than others — body image is one of the top contenders.

For years, the body positivity movement has pushed for the acceptance of all marginalized body types not represented or celebrated in the media. Recently, we've gotten better at appreciating and accepting all body types, but one thing that's still lingering is the stigma of body image in the fashion industry — more specifically, the term "plus-size."

9 Reasons I Unfollowed All The Fitness Influencers On My Instagram Feed

I don't need to feel bad about myself because of who I follow on social media.

Throughout quarantine, something that a lot of us picked up on was working out. With all the free time, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to work on that "dream bod" you've been wanting for years, or to just feel good about yourself.

A common way to stay motivated and keep yourself on-task is to follow fitness influencers on various platforms. For some people, yes, this can be a healthy and helpful way to keep your drive. In other cases, however, this can do more harm than good.
