What I Wish I Could Tell My Dog

...and he understand. They knew what they were talking about when they said "man's best friend"

They say dog is man’s best friend, and when Daddy brought home this amber eyed fuzzball I knew I had found my forever friend too. Don’t tell anyone else, but I think you’re my best friend in the whole entire world, for a few different reasons.

You know more about me than anyone else could ever dream of knowing. You’ve heard my early morning complaints and my late night rambles when I sleep at night. You’ve cuddled with me while I sobbed over boys who broke my heart and things that were beyond out of my control. You’ve heard the things I’m too afraid to even tell my sister or my mom, there is no one I trust more with my secrets than you.

I never ever have to feel about not feeling safe when I’m at home. When you’re not in bed with one of us, you’re happily at your post up against the front door, laid just right so you can see the glass door in the kitchen too.

You always let us know when someone/something approaches the house, and if an unwelcome guest were ever to show up, you would be the first to know. You make sure we’re all protected, guarded and warm whenever we get sick or hurt. I’ve never seen a dog more loyal than you, buddy.

You’re so loving, and I know it comes naturally to you but when I come home from school and get greeted by you bolting out the door, nothing warms my heart more. Or the sad look on your face when you know I’m packing up to head back, that breaks my heart in a way I can’t even begin to explain. Waking up to your lovins' every Saturday morning is the highlight of my life.

I think all the time about how you are the glue that holds our family together and saved us. You complete us: the three kids, Mom, Dad & our buddy boy. Even when you get muddy paw prints all over after mom just mopped, or decide to spill your water bowl all over the kitchen floor (at dinnertime), or chase the cats around the backyard for hours, I love you as so much more than just a dog. I don’t know what we would do without you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
