One more month and 2016 will be over. Just like any year, this year has been full of good times and bad times. It has had its ups and its downs, but soon it will be coming to an end. For some of us, that means certain milestones have been reached. For others, it's just the beginning. Here are some things that I have left to expect in 2016.
1. I will have officially made it through my first semester of college:
It has been rough being away from my family and pets. I miss them daily and I'm still not entirely sure what I want to do with myself. College has been fun though. I've learned new things about myself and I've made friends along the way. I have a great roommate and, despite what people say, campus food is not that bad. I've went on my first trip to Washington, D.C. I also started my first semester of Chinese, and took a calligraphy class. I've experienced the joys of rush hour in Pittsburgh, and the company of friends along the way. It's been a new experience, an experience that will be partially over when 2016 ends. I'll have successfully made it through the first semester, and will only have one more to go before I am no longer a freshman.
2. The elections will finally be over:
One of the most annoying things about 2016 has been the elections. The constant arguments over which candidate is better gets old, especially when you're not very fond of either of them. This year has been full of so many advertisements, arguments, and controversial issues that it gets exhausting. You can't even watch a simple YouTube video without be bombarded by anti-Hilary or anti-Trump ads. Television shows are continuously interrupted so that we can watch Hilary and Trump argue like children for nearly two hours. The worst part is that nobody has anything good to say about each other. Democrats and Republicans are so pitted against each other in the defense of these two, that it becomes ridiculous. People will actually stop talking to each other over the presidential elections. They'll call each other hateful and nasty names all in the name of political parties. The citizens of the United States have turned on each other in order to debate over which candidate is worse. Things like misogyny, racism, and xenophobia have become the opinion of the masses, all because of one man, We as a people have excused hatred, sexual assault, and threats to our national security in order to argue over which candidate is less evil. I doubt America could stoop any lower. I hope that no matter how this election ends that we as a people will strive to do better in 2017.
3. Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life:
Politicians have failed American this year, as have the American citizens. At least Netflix will never fail to provide adequate distractions to the inevitable downfall of our society. Netflix decided to release a sequel to the popular Gilmore Girls series this November. The trailer was just recently released. It features all the original cast and the same quirky humor from the original Gilmore Girls series. Everyone from Sookie to Jess are featured in featured in the trailer. We can all sadly reminisce over the loss of Richard, and laugh at Emily actually wearing jeans. If nothing else, we have the humorous distraction of the "Gilmore Girls" to look forward to this year.
