What I Want For Christmas

No, it's not a Red Ryder carbine-action two-hundred shot range model air rifle.

Christmas is the best time of year. It's full of unadulterated cheer and goodwill, wonderful songs (no matter how repetitive) that are only tolerated one month a year, and lots of red and green. The single most asked question this time of year is "What do you want for Christmas?" As a college student, allow me to enlighten you on what we really want for Christmas.

1. We want financial stability

Life is expensive, college is also expensive. As college students, we are expected to have social lives, do well in school, sleep, have a significant other, and have a job that pays well enough to get us through school. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen. In fact, it's more of a "pick 3" kind of deal. We want to be able to buy a pizza without making sure we have more than $.10 in our bank accounts.

2. We want a really good sleep

During this blessed thing we call "finals week," nobody sleeps, some naps are just longer than others. And when it's cold outside and you're on your third cup of coffee of the night and you're still 500 words short of finishing that paper, all you want to do is go back to your dorm and sleep. But because it is finals week, sleep in nonexistent. So with that in mind, you chug the last of your coffee, rub your eyes, and try to type a few more cohesive paragraphs in the hope that you will be able to shut down for an hour or two before your morning class.

3. We want space in our brains

Our brains have spent the last semester sitting through lectures, labs, study sessions, and tutoring hours-- we are tired and we want a break. Not only that, but we don't understand how there is possibly any more room in our brains for new information! An extra 128 GB of memory in our minds would be most appreciated. Either that or the ability to empty out the unnecessary stuff like the all the Jonas Brothers songs that only seem to play when we need to remember important information.

4. We want more hours in the day

With midnight deadlines plaguing our lives, a few more hours before that dreaded hour of 12:00 a.m. would be one of the best gifts ever. More hours in the day might even mean an extra hour of precious sleep! Or a little more time for a squad adventure! The possibilities that could be accomplished with a few extra hours in the day are endless.

5. We want love

You know that question we get asked every holiday? The "why don't you have a boyfriend/girlfriend" question? Yeah, we're wondering the same thing. In all honesty, finding someone in college is hard. Especially when the pickings are slim, the time is rare, and dating often requires money, dating in college is a struggle. We promise we aren't hermits who don't want love, we just haven't found anyone worth making the time for yet. But yes, we do indeed want the comfort of having someone who loves us.

While these aren't tangible requests, they are the true wishlist of a college student. If you must know what might make our lives a little easier, a giftcard to a coffee establishment or an extra $20 is sure to be a present that makes the college student in your life smile a little brighter. Merry Christmas, and happy gifting!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
