Cat and Dog People
In the world we live in there are a few cultural divides we live congruently with.
There are questions asked time and time again and they define exactly what kind of person you are.
Questions you ask on first dates, establishing similarities and differences while learning these little minor details.
I like to refer to them as “opinionados” because they are all individually biased and depending on someone’s own opinion toward something. Some examples of this include some great ones like:
Chocolate or Vanilla ice cream? (also pertains to type of frosty’s at Wendy’s)
Dell or Mac?
Futuristic, Real time, or past time T.V shows?
New York style or Chicago deep?
Netflix or Hulu?
Beer or liquor?
Who made the best Spiderman?
The questions go on and on yet there is one that humanity has seemed to deem the MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION EVER. “So…. are you a dog or cat person?”
This question is a very specific and tailored one that people seem to think define them in some ways, and I don’t believe they are wrong. Dogs and cats as we all know and can physically see, are two very different types of animals. Why we chose to domesticate these two animals and not creatures like koalas or hippopotamuses, two much cooler sounding pets, is beyond me but we did. Here we are today with over 339 breeds of dogs and 200 different cat breeds and similar to a snow flake, their personalities and environments where they grow up are all different and no two being the same.
Dogs and cats both make great pets and if you have a household with both, you are bound to be a well-rounded person, congrats. Yet for others it’s a make or break decision and the stereotypes and assumptions about you are going to come rolling in moments after you make your choice. I myself am a dog person, I have a dog currently, but I have owned both for a moment of time and I stand by my decision.
The assumptions that come from you being a dog person are comical. You are all smiles. A very happy go lucky person who would enjoy a nice walk or game of fetch with your best friend. Yes while cats and dogs are very loving it is obvious which of the two crave more affection and can reassure you with their undying mutual love.
The assumptions of a cat person are also quite goofy as well. Whenever I think of cats I inherently just think of Garfield, so I can not help but let out a gig. Cat owners give the portrayal of introverts. They may be characterized like their cat, finicky, grumpy, and would prefer to be curled up with a good book or show on their lap. (Lasagna is optional)
