Last night, my friends and I were just hanging out and found ourselves talking about the TV shows we grew up watching. I never thought that 22-minute episodes of adults playing teens, mediocre animation and a whole lot of laugh tracks could cause such division. Everyone's opinions on these shows differed and NO ONE would back down from their opinion. Honestly, what shows you enjoyed say a lot about a person, however, nothing says more about a person than which channel they preferred. I'm personally a Disney Channel girl, however, Nickelodeon comes in at a close second. With the release of Disney+ and the addition of Victorious on Netflix, I feel as if childhood shows are being talked about more than ever (sidenote: Drake and Josh is on Hulu- you're welcome). Here is my slightly biased list of the best shows to watch when you want to go back a few years:
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: My ultimate favorite childhood show has to be The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. This show features the most iconic twins of all time- Dylan and Cole Sprouse (sorry Mary Kate & Ashley). This show had the most amazing plot lines and jokes that are genuinely still funny. With a top-notch cast including Ashley Tisdale, Brenda Song, convicted felon Phil Lewis and for one amazing episode- Zac Efron.
Good Luck Charlie: Does anyone else feel like Good Luck Charlie lasted for like 7 years? However, I am in no way complaining. Nothing better than growing up with the Duncan family. If I'm being honest- the kids on the show were pretty cringe, especially Teddy (who was played by Bridget Mendler). However, icons Bob and Amy Duncan literally carried the entire show on their back. It also didn't hurt that everyone's favorite Disney Channel cutie- Shane Harper- played Teddy's boyfriend, Spencer.
Wizards of Waverly Place: I feel pretty guilty putting Wizards of Waverly Place third, however, I already started the article. I'm pretty sure Wizards of Waverly Place was loved by all. The show literally took place on our campus- New York City. I always see things on Buzzfeed saying "which animated food would you rather have?". Personally, nothing would make me happier than taking a trip to Russo's Sub Shop and getting a first-hand taste of the magic.
Drake and Josh: As a kid, I definitely liked Drake and Josh. Recently, I realized how funny it actually is. This is a show I would genuinely still watch today. Drake Bell and Josh Peck are stepbrothers that prove the term- "opposites attract". Or do they? This iconic show constantly broke the 4th wall and was filmed sort of like a David Dobrik vlog- constantly changing and never boring. Also, for every iCarly fan out there- you can thank Drake and Josh for Miranda Cosgrove.
Victorious: Victorious recently came on Netflix, and when I say I pushed aside everything to watch it- I mean it. Victorious is also so genuinely funny and follows an amazingly talented group of high schoolers at a performing arts school. The cast is full of stars such as Victoria Justice, Avan Jogia, Liz Gillies, Ariana Grande but most importantly, the best person of all time- Andre's Grandma.
