It's finally summer! The time of year every college student is excited for. Finals are over and the stress is finally done. Students around the country celebrate the welcome break from studying and homework. However there is one thing that they do not look forward to and that's the separation from their friends. Some students simply have to deal with their friends being in different cities, but there are those like me who are from a completely different state than their college buddies. And even my hometown squad this summer is struggling now that we are all doing adult things in our respective college states.

I am staying in my college town this summer for classes and work and thankfully most of my friends from college are also here. It is nice not to have to spend the summer communicating by just snap chats and text messages. And those who are no longer in town are only a few hours away in a different part of the state and can drive down for a week or a few days to visit. It is nice not to have to wait months to see their lovely faces again. There is struggle when you are multiple states away from your best friends who have seen you having breakdowns in the library before a major test.

So what do you do when you and your friends are away from each other for the summer?

GroupMe/Group Text

This is the simplest way to communicate with your squad. You can share inside jokes or funny memes with your besties at random points during the day or night. If you need advice you only need to wait a little while before someone gives you sound reasoning about why you should or should not do the thing you asked about. Chances are they will probably encourage the thing but maybe the mom in the group will pop up with sound advice.

SnapChat

If you don't have enough blackmail on each other the summer is the best time to stock up on horrible photos of each other. Now there are also snap chat groups so you share stories with only one click instead of going through your friends list finding everyone you need to share a photo of that delicious food you're about to try.

Facetime/Google Hangout/Skype

When you miss seeing the faces of your squad members without strange dog filters, any one of these is a good solution. Google Hangouts can have multiple people join in and there are also fun stickers to meme your friends with. These are always nice to catch everyone up on what monumental life events have happened in the time you all have been separated.

Phone Calls

The old classic phone call is also a solution to separation from your squad. These are nice to have so you can focus more on where you're going while also listening to stories about the fun adventures of your friends.

Squad Trips

If you really need some quality time, plan out a trip to visit everyone. Find a location and get everyone to meet up. You can even carpool! (*whisper* STMS squad we need to do this right now).

Don't worry everyone. Only a few more months until the squads can be reunited.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
