Writing is hard, I’ll admit it. Even the best writers have gotten writer’s block at some point or another. I’m here to help you though! These are some of the tips I’ve gotten and some of the things I’ve done to get me through writing, which includes some articles too.

  1. The best tip I’ve gotten is from my high school English teacher: read something. In his words “let great writing inspire great writing.” Read something to get you inspired. It could be anything. A book, lyrics, an article. Just something to get you thinking about writing.
  2. Grab a pencil or computer, start writing, and don’t stop. Even if you can’t think of anything else to write, keep writing. You can even write that you can’t think of anything, as long as you make sure your pencil doesn’t stop touching the paper or your fingers to your keyboard.
  3. Do some cleaning or chores. I know this one is weird, but this is something that actually works for me. I don’t know if it works for anyone else, though. You can’t force writing is something that I’ve learned recently, and since I usually have something I need to clean, I do that instead to keep me busy. Then once I’m done with that, I can usually start writing without something bothering me at the back of my mind.
  4. Make a list of topics and pick the one you can relate to the most. Once you do, write about that topic for ten minutes. As I said in point number two, make sure to not stop.
  5. This one is kind of bizarre, but it has helped me a few times. Take a nap. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you can’t force writing. Sometimes your best writing ideas will come while you’re in the most random places (away from paper or your computer), and one of those places might be while sleeping. This allows you to stop stressing about it for a moment, take a break, and wake up with a fresh mind.

There you have it. These are five steps that help me get writing again.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
