In my home country, the Netherlands, we have many holidays. Christmas, Easter, Carnaval and Kingsday, some of them are corresponding with the USA, some are not. The other way around the same thing happens, we know of Halloween but don't celebrate it actively, although it is up and coming in the last couple of years.
One holiday we do not celebrate at all, nor have we anything that looks like it, is Thanksgiving.
Honestly, I don't really know why Thanksgiving is celebrated. I know family comes together to eat stuffed turkey and say all the things they are thankful for. It looks like a fun holiday to me, but as I said, I don't know much about it. I also know that the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, is a crazy shopping day in the States. There are crazy sales and people buy all their Christmas goods, that's it basically, isn't it?
In popular culture, Thanksgiving is often portrayed. In movies and TV series there are usually moments/episodes devoted to Thanksgiving, so basically, all my knowledge is based on those portrayals. I always think it looks really nice, like a pre-Christmas, it has that kind of feel to it. To me, it does at least.
It would be nice to celebrate it here, but we have Sinterklaas instead. So I guess we're even.
