What I Am Thankful For This Year, Besides The Basics

I have a lot to be thankful for around this time of year. Of course my family, friends, team, etc. are part of it. I don't know what I would do without those people. Here are a few things that you don't always think of, but I am definitely very thankful for.

1. Fuzzy Socks

It is so cold in our room that it's not uncommon for my roommate to sit on the futon in her parka. I am always grateful for anything that will keep me warm.

2. Driving

Driving has always been a way to destress for me. Being a freshman we are not allowed to have our cars on campus, which obviously means no driving. As annoying as it was to have to chauffeur my siblings around in high school I now find myself looking for any excuse to drive.

3. Good Playlists

A playlist can make or break a mood. I can't imagine practicing every morning or driving home without a playlist of all of my favorite songs. I'm always looking for new music to add to them.

4. Christmas Music

Christmas music is my favorite genre of music. I am one of those people that could listen to Christmas music all year. The second Thanksgiving is over it's all Christmas music all the time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
