I have for many years been trying to be healthier and lose weight. I had tried many different "diets" and exercises and honestly felt nothing would ever work. I ended up giving up for a while. After a period of time, I began thinking about my diet. I was in high school so I lived with my family and ate with my family so I was not going to be able to change my diet too drastically.
I ate relatively healthy and I was a 3 sports athlete so it was not a problem of not being active, I could not figure out what to do. Eventually it hit me, it was not what I was eating, it was what I was drinking. Yes, I was drinking water, Gatorade but I was also drinking a lot of soda.
And that was the problem…
SODA
So as cliche as I can get, I decided to give up soda as a New Years Resolution. I totally was and still am the type of person who tries to do something as a new year resolution but this was one of them that I was actually able to stick to.
I finished the soda we had in the house and told my mom that I was no longer drinking soda so she did not have to buy it anymore. I did not do anything differently with my life - I ate the same as I always have, I played my sports, did my homework and just went about my life. Just for fun of it, I decided to weigh myself two weeks later and to my surprise…
I lost 12 pounds!
I was literally in shock for probably an additional two weeks. But then I realized why I actually lost all that weight so quickly. Soda is absolutely terrible for you. If I lost that much weight that quickly it that, soda has got to be terrible for your body.
I am not saying that everyone who drinks soda is unhealthy by any means and I have actually started drinking soda again (in very little moderation).
The point is, everyone has to find the part of their life that is making it difficult to achieve their goals. And once you figure that out it is more important to let yourself indulge every once and awhile.
