At the end of the year, it can feel like you're running out of steam. Maybe you're tempted to make a poor decision. Maybe you're tempted to slack off on housework/job responsibilities. Whatever the case, persevere—2019 is right around the corner!
Here are 11 things you shouldn't do as the year comes to a close:
1. Text an ex.
GiphyMaybe you spent last New Year's together and you're feeling very nostalgic. Maybe you missed them at Christmas dinner. Whatever the case, don't reach out to them. Not a good idea.
2. Get arrested.
GiphyEnd-of-the-year parties are great, but try not to do illegal things. Please. You're so close to the clean slate of a new year.
3. Break up with your kind, loving SO whom you love.
GiphyYou may think "new year, new me" and consider breaking up with your significant other just to start 2019 with total freedom, but you'll regret that decision. On the other hand, if your SO is in any way toxic, do not hesitate to break up with them.
4. Skip your exercise routine.
GiphyIt's tempting after all the holiday treats to just go to sleep for a week, but don't stop working out. Finish the year strong!
5. Subsist only on pie and other holiday treats for three days straight.
GiphyThis was me at Thanksgiving. Can say from experience that I do not recommend. Eat pie and some nutritious proteins and veggies.
6. Abandon your usual daily routine.
GiphyHoliday season and just general end-of-the-year stress can lead to lots of chaos. Don't give up on your routine, though—a familiar routine can keep you from feeling out of control amidst all the family drama that's sure to accompany the closing of 2018.
7. Skip brushing your teeth.
GiphySure, you're tired and you wanna go to sleep (or stay in bed). But dental health is important year-round, especially during holiday-sweets season.
8. Adopt a pet just in the spirit of the holidays.
GiphySeriously. Only adopt a pet when you know you can provide for the animal and give it the love and care it deserves.
9. Spend your entire paycheck on gifts for friends and family.
GiphyIt's tempting during this season of giving to go a little overboard. Remember that you need money for yourself, too. The power and phone companies unfortunately do not offer holiday reprieves from your bills.
10. Quit your job.
GiphyUnless you have a new job already lined up, don't give in to the temptation to leave your current one in 2018. A whole new year of work may sound daunting, but you can do this!
11. Cut off ties with everyone you know, change your name and move to a different country.
GiphyEven though it's probably really tempting after the holiday drama.
Yeah, you really shouldn't do these things. Instead, work on setting yourself up for success in the new year! We're all in this chaotic mess called "life" together, folks.
