What I Learned From Getting My Phone Stolen

There are more important things than your iPhone.

What I Learned From Getting My Phone Stolen

A weekend without my beautiful iPhone. Some may say it's horrific, while others may say it's a sign of relief.

2 a.m. on Saturday morning: five minutes into getting my phone ripped out of my purse, I used my roommate's phone to first call my mother because I was in shock. I just got my phone two weeks prior and the only thing on my mind was how mad my mom was going to be. When she answered, I think it brought terror to her ears to hear her daughter crying, at two in the morning on a Saturday, calling from an unknown number. However, she was beyond relieved to find out it was only about a cell phone.

The rest of that Saturday morning I slept with my computer beside me, vigorously checking my texts through my computer, and keeping Twitter and Facebook up on tabs. When I woke up, I Facetimed my mom and she blessed me with the news that my new phone would be arriving on Monday.

As for Sunday, through the piles of homework I had to catch up on, I was somewhat relieved that I didn't have a cell phone. I didn't have the constant reminder that I had something to check. I soon forgot about the Twitter and Instagram tabs I had just refreshed and the texts that were coming in. I got everything I needed to get done for the week and in some way, I figured it was a sign that I needed to get off my cell phone. It was time to focus on something that was truly important: my education.

Monday finally came and I got my new phone. I was so excited to check Snapchat, flooded with stories from my best friend, and to finally focus on something other than my homework. I also learned that my phone wasn't a necessity. Sure, I had to carry around my laptop like an XXXXXL phone and had no mode of conversation on my 20-minute walk to class, but it gave me a piece of mind that I had something to do other than refresh Twitter. Getting my iPhone stolen was a blessing and a curse that helped me to realize that there are more things to worry about. Yes, mom and dad, I did survive without one.

P.S. Don't leave your purse unzipped, especially at Bulls.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
