16 Good, Bad, And Weird Things I've Learned From My First Year Of College

Here are some of the weirdest, best, and worst things that starting college has taught me. Take it with a grain of salt.

1. Just because you've been friends with them since forever, does not mean your high school best friends will always be your best friends.

2. The Freshman 15 is real.

3. All those times in high school that your teachers said, "This won't float in college," definitely float in college.

4. Don't buy your textbooks until you KNOW you need them.

5. Get involved in things you actually enjoy.

6. Always go to the free t-shirt events.

7. Don't eat dining hall eggs.

8. Put yourself out there or you'll never make friends.

9. You'll miss your parents a lot more than you think.

10. Steal the dining hall fruit.

11. Bring containers to the dining hall.

12. The silent part of the library is actually a great place to work (don't wait until the last week of the last semester to find this out as I did).

13. If you take an 8 A.M., go to the gym or the library after so you don't end up napping for six hours after.

 14. Always wear your shower flip flops.

15. The late night Taco Bell runs are inevitable. Let them happen.

16. You'll miss your college friends more than you can imagine.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
