What I Learned Throughout My Sophomore Year of College

Dear Sophomore Year,

Where do I even begin. You've been a school year full of craziness. Full of ups and downs, crying and laughter but I wouldn't change it for the world. You've taught me a lot more than I could have ever expected to get from this year. I've grown so much as a person this past year of school and I'm just thankful. Everyone has a different experience every year, but here's what this year has taught me.

1. Classes only get harder

2. Joining a sorority is one of the best things you can do

3. Friend come and go

4. 9:30am is still too early for classes

5. It's OK to be busy all the time

6. But that doesn't mean you can't sit in your room watching Netflix

7. GO TO CLASS

8. Seriously just go to class

9. The library is your friend. Go to it.

10. You'll find the people that will stick around

11. Freshman year sucked, thank god sophomore year was so much better

12. Trying to get an internship is stressful

13. Look earlier for an internship, don't wait until April or May

14. Traveling is fun and so are road trips.

15. You can still go home and see family.

16. People judge you if you're in a sorority, I still haven't figured out why though. I let you know if I do.

17. Honestly, what is the freshman 15 that was nonexistent? It should definitely be called the sophomore 10.

18. Getting a job is actually a good idea and can really help.

19. Organization is so important.

20. It's okay to join a sorority, work two jobs, and be involved in other things but know your limit.

21. You know all of those networking events they encourage you to go to your freshman year? Yeah, you should go to them they're HELPFUL.

22. Keep assignments you've done in the past, they can seriously help for a portfolio when applying for internships/jobs.

23. It's totally acceptable to go to bed at 10 at night.

24. It's also totally acceptable to go to bed at 3 in the morning.

25. Classes you want for the next semester are still hard to get into even as a sophomore.

26. Say yes to opportunities, don't let your fears get in the way.

27. Don't procrastinate. Please DON'T PROCRASTINATE.

28. Don't let drama take up more than five minutes of your time if it won't matter to you in five years.

29. Bring a car to school next year. Please.

30. Embrace yourself and who you are. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

So thank you Sophomore year, you've been quite the roller coaster, but you've taught me life lessons and given me opportunities I would never have thought was possible,

Sincerely,

Someone who will hopefully listen to their own advice

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
