Every summer since I was a kid, I have been buying new bathing suits. Sometimes, I take a hiatus and I wear last year’s suits, but I really enjoy bathing suit shopping. I go to some stores and try millions on, but there’s always one small thing in the back of my mind.
I am all for wearing what I want when I want to and I’ve learned this past year to really begin to accept myself. However, wearing a bathing suit in a public area like the beach means strangers and tourists see things about my body that they wouldn’t normally see.
They see scars, stretch marks, stubble, and my awkward insulin-pump site tan lines. This all comes to the forefront of my mind when I am trying on bathing suits in the store. I’m thinking, “Oh no, you can see this tan line!” and “Wow, I definitely can’t hide that in this bathing suit!”. But every year as I’ve grown, as I’ve learned the ins and outs of my body, and as I’ve become my own person, I’ve learned to let these worries go.
The whole and honest truth: no one cares about my bathing suit!
Sure, girls and women notoriously look at others clothes, hair, makeup, and automatically make judgments about them. But at the end of the day, no one honestly cares about what you are wearing! If you turn their heads, then good for you! If not, then good for you, too!
My bikini has taught me that no one cares about which bathing suit I am wearing.
My bikini has taught me not to worry about other people around me. Just to worry about myself. When I am shopping, I want to feel good in the bathing suit. This might mean I choose certain colors, certain styles, or certain patterns. Once I feel comfortable(notice the use of I, not you and everyone else), I purchase the suit and voila! That’s it! Just add beach and sun.
There’s no reason for me to feel self-conscious or worried about all of these little things about my body. Chances are, other people are worried about them too!
My bikini has taught me to own what I have and to work it. Always. No questions asked.
My bikini has made me a more confident human being. Has yours?
Stop worrying about your bikini body. Start thinking about how you want to feel in your bikini(or one-piece) and if the bikini you currently have is doing that job. If it isn’t, then it’s time to go shopping!!!!
