When it comes to Greek life, there are many reasons one would consider joining. Whether it be to meet new friends, business opportunities, adding to your resume, or just to say you did it. Even though there are multiple pros and benefits when becoming a member in a sorority, and it may seem like it’s all fun and games, pledging a sorority is also a serious commitment, but is also very rewarding.
Here’s what it’s really like to pledge a sorority:
1. It's a huge time commitment.
Pledging itself takes up quite a bit of time. As soon as you get your bid prepare to be on board. With that being said that doesn't mean when it's over, it stops there, During the semester, everyone must be involved and must be ready to make sacrifices. Whether you’re planning an event or designing T-shirts, all active members must attend meetings so everyone is on track.
2. It's a lot of hard work.
Pledging can be very fun and is what you make it out to be. Although, it should be taken seriously,TV shows and movies can make sororities seem like it’s all fun, and no work. While pledging a sorority is a ton of fun, there are also a lot of things you need to learn about your sorority, including the history, purpose, philanthropy, active sisters, etc. All with good reasoning.
3. It can become overwhelming at times.
Trying to manage your time while pledging can become extremely difficult. Sometimes there is so much going on in one week between school, work pledging and whatever else there may be going on in your crazy life, you start to get stressed out. When this does happen, always remember that you can rely on your pledge moms, the active sisters, or your pledge class. They are all there for you, no matter what. And never forget the true reason why you decided to join.
4. There will be drama.
With a group of twenty-year-old girls it's hard not to dodge the drama between members. There’s sometimes going to be someone you don’t get along with as with any club or group you join. But, when pledging, you must remember to stick together despite issues. Keeping a civil boundary is the best way from keeping personal issues from interfering.
5. It's a ton of fun with cherished memories .
Pledging is like I said, what you make it. Know when to be serious and when to have fun. Meeting all of your future sisters, your big and family line is one of the most exciting parts. Before you know it, you'll be showered in crafts and t~shirts, posing for the gram, planning events, doing charity work, working on crafts, shopping from numerous closets, having sleepless drunken nights, telling crazy stories, sharing endless laughs that will bring you closer. You will turn out to have forever friends and you all become close as family. Going to the events you plan is also a blast, as well as always having someone to hang out and rage with.Being with your sorority sisters is full of laughter, making memories, and excitement.
