What It's... Like... Being A... Procrastinator

The struggle of always leaving it until the last minute is REAL.

What It's... Like... Being A... Procrastinator
Adriana Gil

You sit down at your desk. Cup of coffee on one hand and a pen in the other. You have two papers due so you start on one. But then you think about how maybe you should work on the other one first because it might be easier to work with and write. Then as you're working on the other one you realize the first one is quicker to do but then you debate if you should do the easier one or the more difficult one first. One thing leads to another and you end up not writing either one and watching the new episode of your favorite show. Sound familiar?

If you're a procrastinator, then it definitely should.

There are a lot of downsides to being a procrastinator, but waiting to do something isn't terrible. Though it is bad to leave things for last minute; it's impressive to see myself have nothing done, yet find the quickest and best way of actually doing and finishing the task. Best part of it, I find a way to make what I am working on not just enough, but successful.

Under pressure, my brain begins to rapidly process the situation. If it's for a paper or an article, I begin to think of all the things I could write about and how I want to execute what I'm feeling. My brain is going so fast that I am capable of writing that paper I started at 9 p.m. that's due by 11:59 p.m. done by 11 p.m. The word-vomit your brain goes through when it's in panic mode can be quite fascinating.

Sadly at times, that isn't the case, and the work just never gets done. You leave it until last minute and instead of your brain allowing you to process the situation faster, it just shuts down. That paper is going to be turned in late or not at all and you know damn well you had plenty of time to actually do it, but you found that episode more engaging than the paper.

At the end of it, it's all about the type of procrastinator you are. Procrastinators are just lazy people that eventually find a way to get it done (hopefully). Some people wait until the last minute and end up not doing it all or attempt it but end up giving up. While some others BS their way to the deadline or have sufficient word vomit to make it good.

Obviously procrastinating isn't the best characteristic. I wouldn't recommend putting something off until the last minute because inevitably it will be stressful. It's always best to get it done early but just because you may be a procrastinator doesn't mean you can't do it. So do it.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
