I am sure that by now we all know someone that has experienced coronavirus (COVID-19). If you know someone I am sure that you wonder "how bad was it?" Here's the thing — even if you have had COVID, not everyone experiences it the same way.

It all started about a week and a half ago for me. I thought that I was just having allergies because it is that time of the year and my mom was also having the same problems. We thought it was just allergies because my mom always gets allergies every year. I am the type of person that just gets it every once in a while.

As last week went on, things started to turn differently. My runny nose started to clear up and I could breathe out of my nostrils better and I was like yay the allergy medicine is working. But then my mom's boyfriend started to not feel very well. This was about the middle of the week last week. He mentioned that he never gets allergies this time of the year.

We started thinking and of course, COVID crossed our minds. Even more so now that my mom and I could not really smell anything. This all happened in the span of a couple of days. My mom called her doctor and got an appointment set up to get tested.

Less then 12 hours later, she was positive. That means no more work or school for me and no work for her. But the good news is that I hadn't worked at all that week anyway. I was talking to my boss and my mom and we decided I wasn't going to get tested right away.

Now that might sound crazy, but we had a good reason. Even if the test was negative I would still have to quarantine since I live with my mom and I have nowhere else to go. A couple of days later we decided I should get tested, but I could not get in for two days which I think is crazy.

Surprise surprise, I was positive. At this point, I was on day 4 or 5 of quarantine. So I was still doing everything I was supposed to do, it was just official now. When I was talking to the lady on the phone she said that I am good to go after 10 days from my symptoms starting. That kind of surprised me because I thought I would have to quarantine for 14 days, but I guess not.

I have no idea where I got it from. It was either my mom or I that got it first and we gave it to the other person. I wear a mask everywhere I go so I was just confused. I could have gotten it from school, but I am hardly on campus. I know that it is still possible to get it from there, it's just all so crazy.

So what are my thoughts on having COVID? I couldn't go to school or work. I couldn't see anyone. But considering the circumstance, I do not want to get anyone sick so I am OK with that. Here is the thing — I felt 100% fine every day. That's the annoying part. I never got sick — no fever, the only symptoms that I had was not being able to smell anything and feeling that my taste was compromised, but other than that I am totally fine. But I know that I am one of the lucky ones.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
