Last night, Iowa was the first state to vote for the Democratic and GOP candidates in the Iowa Caucus.
And things got…interesting.
In case you missed it, or have been under a rock the last 12 hours, Ted Cruz pulled out a, let’s be real, surprising feat as the winner in Iowa for the Republic party with 27.7 percent. Trump closely followed Cruz with 24.3 percent, followed by Marco Rubio with 23.1 percent.
If Iowa taught us anything last night, it’s that every. vote. counts.
In West Davenport, Iowa, the decision between Clinton and Sanders came down to a coin toss. A coin toss. And that wasn’t the only location that was too close to call – the entire state was. At 12 a.m. CST today, 97 percent of Democratic precincts reported Clinton with 49.8 percent and Sanders with 49.6 percent. A 0.2 percent difference in numbers.
Needless to say, this year’s upcoming election will be a close race if it is anything like the Iowa Caucus. Now, more than ever, it’s crucial Americans exercise the beautiful right we have to vote. Remember: voting is an opportunity we have that others do not. Participate. Educate yourself on candidates, their stances on issues and their plans for America.
With issues like healthcare, cost of education, immigration and gun control (just to name a few) making their way into mainstream media everyday, we need to be educated on these topics. Now more than ever before, we desperately need to know how each candidate’s plans and ideas for action affect us and our great nation.
Again, voting is YOUR right. Exercise it. But gain knowledge first. Because after all, trends show that these people who are successful in Iowa and New Hampshire will set the tone for the rest of the election process. And oh, these people are going to be our President, so… you know… vote.
It’s 2016, and I’d never thought I’d say it, we have a former First Lady, a few former Senators and a former reality TV show host all in the mix. They all have a lot of plans, strategies and ideas for our country, so please: take note from the people of Iowa.
Your. Vote. Matters.
