When I first came to visit Mississippi State, I knew that it was where I needed to be. I met people that were so kind and who genuinely wanted me to be on campus. During the first few weeks of my freshman year, things were very overwhelming (not gonna lie). I wasn't familiar with this new place, my roommate, and I just felt like I was on a random planet trying to find my place in the world. However, I did know that I wanted to have an amazing time at college. I wanted to find some people that would become my closest friends, that would accept me for exactly who I was.

I remember one night, my mom sent me a link to this website. It was about an organization called Sigma Phi Lambda. I had never heard about it before, but it's a Christian sorority on campus. I thought that this was super cool but I wanted to check more into it.

Basically, Sigma Phi Lambda is not a Panhellenic sorority like most of the well-known sororities on campus. This is not because they hold anything against the Panhellenic sororities. It's just a different ballgame. Phi Lamb's main goal is to glory God and to provide fellowship for college women. It's a non-denominational organization, and it's located in mainly Southern States.

After researching a bunch, I thought "Okay lit, this seems super awesome." I found out that their recruitment was coming up, and I totally wanted to check it out. I remember walking to the auditorium on the first night of recruitment, and I was kind of freaking out. I was super nervous and thought nobody was gonna like me, that I wasn't going to be cool enough, that the girls were gonna think I was weird, and every other negative thought that could pop into my brain. But, God granted me with so much more than I was expecting.

I was welcomed with open arms when I joined Phi Lamb. I didn't have to pretend to be this cool athlete or beautiful model or super smart genius. I literally could just be myself.

2 years later and here we are. I can 110% say that have truly loved being apart of this sisterhood on my campus. It has been one of the many blessings of coming to college. The girls inspire and encourage me even when college get super crazy. They keep me accountable and they teach me so much. I have found some amazing people that I get to call my best friends. My favorite thing about it is just how welcoming every single girl is and that, even though we are different in so many ways, we stand united because of our love for Jesus Christ!

I'm not writing this to tell you to not be in a Panhellenic sorority or that my sorority is better. That's not what I'm trying to say at all. I have a bunch of friends in them and they are super great!

I'm writing this to tell you that coming to college can be super nerve-racking and challenging. Classes can be stressful, not sleeping as much can be a problem, etc. However, what makes it all so much better is finding the people that bring you so much joy and want to do college with you. Whether that's in a sorority, fraternity, on-campus organization, residence hall, etc.

Jesus wants us to find community around us. He wants us to have those deep friendships and love one another. It's the biggest command He gives us, so find the things that you enjoy and get involved. Find the people that bring you so much joy. It makes college worth wild.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
