What I Have Learned Since Being In College

College. It's the time where you become an adult and move away from home. Many challenges must be faced every day. Do I skip class to study for another test? Do I eat another slice of pizza? Those are the hardest questions many college students face. Sometimes I find myself asking those same questions. Sometimes I question whether or not I can make it through one more semester or even a full school year, but despite that, I try my hardest to be the best person I can be. We all make mistakes or get hurt, It's a part of life that is unavoidable, but it's the time of life where those things are more likely to happen. I've learned quite a lot myself and it's those things that make me who I am today.

Boys will come and go.

I have met guys who end up not wanting a relationship but more so a short term thing. I am not a short term option. I do know that the guy I am supposed to be with is within the near future. I must be patient and wait for him to find me because chasing after boys is not the way handle anything.

It's okay to fail a class in college.

No one is perfect. I am not perfect. No one expects us to be Einstein. This is how I decided I need to get learning disorder testing completed. It's not fun, but in the long run, it could help you to be more successful in your college career. Failing one class or even two or three is not the end of the world. I will live and so will you.

The party scene is not for me.

It's okay not to go out on a Friday night. Staying in and eating a whole pizza by yourself is perfectly okay. I'd rather watch my favorite TV show than going out and drinking and waking up with someone you don't remember being with. It is better to remember the fun you had in college rather than the memories that were thrown away.

Ramen noodles are not a food group.

I've been guilty of this. When you think you're running out of money for groceries so you buy the cheapest item for dinner. Not healthy. Have you ever checked how much sodium is in one small pack? Don't even check. Too much. Gross. There are way better things you can buy that are better for your health.

Life brings us challenges that no one will ever expect. Being a young adult is hard. No one ever said it's easy. It's all about how you handle the life you want to live and just maybe I'll remember college as a time of life lessons and great memories. It is okay to go against the norm and do your own thing.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
